Newswatch 12: SOU pool threatens to close, students trying to save it

MEDFORD, Ore. -- Jackson County is losing its largest indoor swimming pool, and Southern Oregon high school students are fighting to keep it. Students stood on the corners of Jackson County streets, from Eagle Point to Ashland, asking for money to keep the Southern Oregon University pool open. The SOU pool is the only official size indoor pool in Jackson County. The pool requires about $80,000 a year for maintenance, and will close if that money is not raised before June 31.
"Competition swimming is about to lose the SOU pool and we need to find a way to save that pool," says Crater High School swim coach Michael Heckert.
Several fundraising events are scheduled, including a swim meet, a swim-a-thon and an auction. For information on saving the Southern Oregon University pool or fundraising events contact the Aquatics Foundation of Southern Oregon:
